The thing about knowledge is that first we have to want it. Of course, even if you don’t want it, every now and then life will hit you with the need to get some. But that is a hard, painful, potentially debilitating way to go through life. At some point in a person’s evolution, we all realize there are truths about how our lives work, about how things work in the world, which can serve to optimize both the quality and the quantity of our lives. We no longer have to drive our car into a tree to understand what the consequences would be.
One of the biggest errors many make (all?) is believing that the apparent construct of our material world is our ultimate reality. The sequence of realization that commonly occurs at some point begins with a feeling of emptiness that material objects can’t fill. We have the thought that we need to “get in touch with ourselves”. At that point we see ourselves as unique material beings in search of a spiritual reality.
As we learn more about the true nature of our world, of our lives, we begin to understand that we ourselves and everything in the universe is ultimately composed of energy. We are energy beings in an energy universe. The next step is realizing the energy which fills the universe, which is the basis for all that is, demonstrates an intelligence of it’s own. We begin to understand we are sentient beings within a sentient universe. That is when we truly begin to understand that, in regard to our lives and the universe, it is not just a universally present energy that pervades our lives, there is also a universally present spirit. That they are one. At some point we realize; we are firstly spiritual beings, and that we are spiritual beings desirous of a material existence. Not the other way around. All the while we were looking to get in touch with our spiritual reality; it is the only thing there is, or ever has been.
When we understand that and devote ourselves to understanding the nature of our spiritual reality, we can begin to understand how to harmoniously work with it, within it. How to harmoniously live with each other. To do so is to put ourselves on the path toward experiencing the satisfaction, the fulfillment which is our birthright. It is our birthright as children of the universal creative spirit, God.
One of the first aspects of our spiritual reality we must realize and accept is our interconnectedness. This may be the aspect of our reality which we are most taught, by our worldly education, to be ignorant of. Not only ignorant of, but taught to believe quite the opposite; that our lives are all unique and separate lives. This is part of the illusion that commonly afflicts us when we are born into the material world.
